Biography

English indie rock and alternative rock band the Wombats was formed in Liverpool, England, the UK in 2003. The band was founded by students of Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts - Matthew Murphy (vocals, guitar, nose-harp and keyboards), Dan Haggis (drums, vocals) and Tord Øverland-Knudsen (bass, vocals). Tord is Norwegian, while Murphy and Haggis are Liverpudlians. The band broke through to the mainstream success with help of their debut album The Wombats Proudly Present: A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation. The album reached number 11 on the UK Albums chart. In order to support the album, the band toured in Europe and in Japan. They performed at Glastonbury festival, at Reading and Leeds festival. The album spawned such singles as "Kill the Director", "Let's Dance To Joy Division", "Backfire at the Disco" and "Moving To New York".
