Biography

American rock band The Velvet Underground coming from New York City, New York, the United States was formed in 1964. The former band members are Lou Reed, John Cale, Sterling Morrison, Angus MacLise, Maureen Tucker, Doug Yule, Walter Powers and Willie Alexander. The band didn’t reach the mainstream success though it is cited by many critics as one of the most influential during its era – the end of 1960s and the beginning of the 1970s. During that time the band released five studio albums and the best-charting album was a debut one featuring German singer Nico and titled The Velvet Underground and Nico. It peaked at number 171 on the Billboard charts. Despite the fact of being in underground, the Rolling Stone magazine put the band on the 19th position in its list of 100 Greatest Artists of all time.
