Faroese Viking metal band Týr was formed on Faroe Islands in 1998 by Heri Joensen and Kári Streymoy who met each other at a party in Copenhagen. Later bassist Gunnar H. Thomsen joined the band. The current line-up consists of Heri Joensen (vocals, guitar), Terji Skibenæs (guitar), Gunnar H. Thomsen (bass) and of Kári Streymoy (drums). The band’s music is influenced and inspired by traditional folk music of Faroe Islands, by ancient Norse mythology and by such bands like Dream Theater and Black Sabbath, so their music can be classified as combinations of heavy metal and folk with strong progressive elements. The breakthrough to the mainstream success happened when the band released their second album Eric the Red (2003). The album received positive reviews from music press in Europe and in U.S. From our site, you can download Týr’s breakthrough album in mp3.
