Biography

Trans-Siberian Orchestra (also known as TSO) is an American symphonic rock/metal and progressive rock/metal band that was formed in 1996 by Paul O'Neill and currently comprises Robert Kinkel, Jon Oliva and Paul O'Neill. The band's name is inspired by the Trans-Siberian Railway in Russia, which Kinkel says connects many cultures otherwise isolated, much like music. The band is also known for their elaborate concerts, complete with a full light show and dozens of pyrotechnics that are synchronized with the actual performance. They quickly gained popularity in 1996 with their breakthrough debut album, Christmas Eve and Other Stories, which became their best-selling album. It also spawned five singles such as "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen", "O Holy Night", "The First Noel", "Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24" and "O Come All Ye Faithful/O Holy Night".
