Biography

Sylvester, birth name Sylvester James was an American disco and soul singer-songwriter, born on September 6, 1947, died on December 16, 1988 at the age of 41. Many facts in his early life are uncertain, like the date of his birthday, it may be that he was born between 1944 and 1948. Being a child, he was very gifted singing gospel and sometimes he was called “child wonder of gospel”. At the age of 16 he ran away from home and in 1967 he moved to San Francisco where according to him his life began. He started his music career and the crucial role in it was a meeting of Patrick Cowley. Together they produced a hit album Step II (1978) which featured two classic disco songs You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) and Dance (Disco Heat). In 1982 he released a Hi-NRG classic track “Do You Wanna Funk” which featured the film Trading Places. You can download Sylvester’s Greatest Hits in mp3 from our site.
