Biography

Japanese rock band Spitz from Shizuoka, Japan was formed in 1987. The band’s line-up composes of Masamune Kusano (vocals, guitar, songwriting), Tetsuya Miwa (guitar), Akihiro Tamura (bass, guitar, band leader), Tatsuo Sakiyama (drums). The band’s name means “sharp and pointed” in German. Kusano suggested the name for the band as he liked “sp” sound. The band’s fan club is called Spitsbergen (Norwegian island). The band achieved great popularity in 1990s having released hit-singles and albums, which topped the Oricon charts. The debut album Spitz came out in 1991 but the real breakthrough was only in 1995. The band’s single Robinson quickly propelled the band to the stardom. The continued their success with single Namida ga Kirari and played a successful show at “MEET THE WORLD BEAT ’95” at Expo in Osaka.
