Biography

Peter Gabriel is an English progressive rock, experimental rock and art rock musician and singer-songwriter. He was born on 13 February 1950, in Chobham, Surrey, England. After leaving an English rock band Genesis, he went on to a successful solo career. He achieved his greatest popularity with songs from his breakthrough album, So (1986), which produced three UK Top 20 hits ("Sledgehammer", "Big Time", and "Don't Give Up" — a duet with Kate Bush). The album also produced three Top 40 hits in the U.S., "Sledgehammer", "In Your Eyes", and "Big Time" (his most recent Top Ten hit), as well as the single "Red Rain". "Sledgehammer", peaked at number 4 in the UK but was a number 1 hit in the U.S. Gabriel co-produced this album with Daniel Lanois, also known for his work with U2 and Brian Eno.
