Liz Phair (birth name Elizabeth Clark "Liz" Phair) is an American alternative rock, indie rock and pop rock singer-songwriter and guitarist. She was born on April 17, 1967. In the early 1990s, she began her career by self-releasing audio demo cassettes under the name Girly Sound. Later, she signed with Matador Records. And in this period of time, she became one of the major artists of the indie rock underground. She achieved mainstream success in 1993 with her debut album, Exile in Guyville, which spawned the singles, "6'1", "Never Said" and "Flower". It also became her most successful and best selling album. Exile in Guyville also was chosen as one of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
