Biography

British rock band the Kinks was formed in 1964 in London by brothers Ray and Dave Davies. The debut lineup composed of Ray Davies (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, harmonica, keyboards, lead songwriting), Dave Davies (lead guitar, backup vocals, occasional lead vocals and songwriting), Mick Avory (drums and percussion) and Pete Quaife (bass guitar, backup vocals). The band was popular at the beginning of their career, they reached popularity in the United States and were labeled as British Invasion. However they lost their popularity with releases of the conceptual albums. The last album Phobia was released in 1993and reached number 166 in the US. Their biggest hits from the 60s and 70s are "You Really Got Me", "All Day and All of the Night", "Tired of Waiting for You", "Set Me Free", "Sunny Afternoon", "Waterloo Sunset", “Lola” and others.
