Jerry Garcia, birth name Jerome John Garcia was an American guitarist virtuoso, one of the founders of the rock band The Grateful Dead and one of the pioneers of the psychedelic rock on the West Coast of the U.S.A. He was born on August 1, 1942 in San Francisco, California, the United States and died on August 9, 1995 in Forest Knolls, California, the U.S. Jerry learned to play guitar at the age of 15. After finishing school, he served in the army and then settled in Palo-Alto where he met Robert Hunter, lyricist of the Grateful Dead which wasn’t founded at that time yet. Jerry played banjo in the local country bands and one of such bands Mother McCree’s Uptown Jug Champions transformed into The Grateful Dead. Jerry took electric guitar. His style incorporated bluegrass and Chuck Berry’s manner, jazz and country. All this made his playing style absolutely unique.
