Biography

Janis Joplin birth name Janis Lyn Joplin (January 19, 1943 – October 4, 1970) was an American rock singer-songwriter who reached the popularity in the late 60s. In 1966 she joined the psychedelic rock band Big Brother and the Holding Company. The popularity of the band rose and it was referred as Janis Joplin and Big Brother and the Holding Company. Together they released five successful albums and Joplin split from the band in 1969. She formed her back up band titled Kozmic Blues Band. By 1969 she was addicted to heroin and spent $200 per day on it. This caused bad live performances like at Woodstock and break of her relations with David Niehaus, finally it led to her death as she died of drug overdose. Kozmic Blues band split and she formed her second and the last one backing band Full tilt Boogie Band. Not long time before her death in September 1970 she began to record the material for her album Pearl which was released after her death and became the best-selling her album.
