Jaco Pastorius, birth name John Francis Anthony Pastorius III was an American jazz and funk musician, composer and producer born on December 1, 1951 in Norristown, Pennsylvania, the United States and died on September 21, 1987 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the United States. He played several instruments but he is known best of all as jazz bassist and some critics consider him the greatest bass guitarist. He had and exceptional improvisation skills and manner of play. He began his music career in the band Weather Report and released his debut solo album in 1976. Later he organized his big band Word of Mouth and toured with them from 1980 till 1984. He also recorded several albums with singer Joni Mitchell. In the middle of 1980s, he faced troubles with his psychic and his health worsened from alcohol and drug abuse.
