Biography

American folk rock duo The Indigo Girls was formed in Atlanta, Georgia, the United States in 1985. The band consists of Amy Ray and Emily Sailers. They knew each other in Elementary school but were not friends because Sailers was a grade ahead of Ray. While attending Shamrock High School they began performing together under different names, like The B-Band and later Sailers and Ray. Their debut release was a seven-inch single “Crazy Game” with a B-side “Everybody’s Waiting (for Someone to Come Home)”. In 1988 they were signed by Epic Records and their major label debut was released in 1989. During their career they have released 12 studio albums and produced quite a number of hit singles. Their most famous songs are Closer to Fine, Hammer and Nail, Galileo, Shame on You, Shed Your Skin, Peace Tonight and Dear Mr. President (with Pink).
