English band High tide was formed in 1969 by Tony Hill (guitar, keyboards, and vocals), Simon House (violin and keyboards), Pete Pavli (bass) and Roger Hadden (drums). The debut album Sea Shanties was released in 1969 and some critics name it the first ever progressive metal album. The album features heavy electric guitar and electric violin. Such fusion stylistically can be classified as hard rock, psychedelic, blues, folk, and jazz-rock. There are no quiet songs on the album and the heaviest ones are considered “Futilist’s Lament and “Death Warmed Up”. The second album “High Tide” released in 1970 wasn’t so heavy featuring keyboards played by House and Hill.
