Gurrumul Yunupingu, full name Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu was born in 1970 on the Elcho Island, Northern Australia, 350 miles from Darwin. He is an Australian indigenous singer coming from the Galpu nation and belonging to Gumatj clan of the Yolngu. He released his debut album Gurrumul in 2008 and quickly gained the popularity. He was born blind. He plays many instruments like drums, guitar and keyboards. He almost doesn’t speak English and sings in his native languages about his native land. His voice made people to talk about him and his debut album was highly acclaimed. He got the ARIA Award in the nomination Best World Music Album and Best Independent Release.
