Great Big Sea (also known as GBS) is an Canadian folk-rock and celtic-rock band from Newfoundland and Labrador that was founded in 1993 by Alan Doyle (vocals, guitar, bouzouki, mandolin), Séan McCann (vocals, bodhrán, guitar, tin whistle), Darrell Power (vocals, bass, guitar, bones), and Bob Hallett (vocals, fiddle, accordion, mandolin, concertina, bouzouki, whistles, bagpipes). They emerged on the Canadian folk music scene in the early 1990s with their debut self-titled album, which brought the band a contract with Warner Music Canada record label.
