Grace Jones (birth name Grace Mendoza) is a Jamaican-American pop, R&B, dance-pop and pop rock singer, model, and actress. She was born on May 19, 1948, Spanish Town, Jamaica. She started her career as a model. During that time, she performed in Paris. Later, she moved to New York where she decided to be a singer. She recorded a demo and sent it to several record companies. Several months later, she signed a contract with Island Records. She emerged on the American pop music scene in the late 1970s with her debut album, Portfolio, which contained her first hits such as "I Need a Man", "Sorry", "That's the Trouble" and "La Vie en rose". She achieved mainstream success as a singer in the early 1980s with her most popular and best selling record, Nightclubbing, which yielded several hit singles including "Demolition Man", "I've Seen That Face Before (Libertango)", "Pull Up to the Bumper", "Use Me", "Feel Up" and "Walking in the Rain".
