Biography

George Benson is a Grammy Award-winning American jazz, funk and pop musician. He was born on March 22, 1943, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. In the beginning, he performed along with organist Jack McDuff, who taught him how to play straight-ahead instrumental jazz. In the middle 1960s, he produced his first album, The New Boss Guitar. Later, he collaborated with Lonnie Smith and Ronnie Cuber. He achieved mainstream success in the late 1970s with his breakthrough album, Breezin', which reached number one on the US Pop, R&B and Jazz charts. He continued his success with his follow-up release, In Concert-Carnegie Hall. Benson is also well know for hits such as "This Masquerade", "Here Comes the Sun", "On Broadway", "Greatest Love of All" and "Give Me the Night".
