Biography

Duran Duran is an English rock, new wave, synthpop and alternative rock band that was formed in 1978 by Nick Rhodes, John Taylor and Stephen Duffy, with the later addition of Roger Taylor and, after numerous personnel changes, Andy Taylor, and Simon Le Bon. The band currently consists of Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor and Roger Taylor. They quickly gained popularity in 1983 with their breakthrough album, Rio, which reached number 2 in the UK and number 1 in Australia. It also reached double platinum status. The album spawned three hits such as "Hungry Like the Wolf", "Save a Prayer" and "Rio". A headlining tour of Australia, Japan, and the U.S. was followed by a stint supporting Blondie during that band's final American tour. Diana, Princess of Wales declared Duran Duran her favorite band, and the band was dubbed "The Fab Five" by the British press.
