Biography

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, also abbreviated as CSO, is one of the most successful and famous orchestras in the world, ranked number 5 by the British classic magazine Gramophone in 2008. The Orchestra was founded in 1891. The current Principal Conductor is Bernard Haitink, Music Director Designate is Riccardo Muti. The Orchestra is known to hold an annual Ravinia Festival, which is based in Highland park, Illinois. The Orchestra had many famous guest conductors including Leonard Bernstein, Edward Elgar, Richard Strauss, and many others. Principal guest conductors have been Pierre Boulez, Carlo Maria Giulini, and Claudio Abbado. The Orchestra have received many Grammy Awards in such nominations like Best Classical Contemporary Composition, Best Opera Recording, Best Classical Vocal Performance and others.
