Bruce Hornsby (birth name Bruce Randall Hornsby) is an American improvisational multi-genre, rock, heartland rock, jazz and bluegrass singer and musician. He was born on November 23, 1954, in Williamsburg, Virginia. He came to prominence as a member of piano pop and rock band The Range. In the mid-1980, they released their multi-platinum album, The Way It Is, which produced three biggest hits such as "Mandolin Rain", "The Long Race" and "The Way It Is". It also brought the band the Grammy Award for Best New Artist. The Way It Is has been certified platinum three timed in the US. The album's lead single, "Mandolin Rain", peaked at number 1 on the adult contemporary chart and at number 2 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.
