Biography

Johannes Brahms was a German composer born on May 7, 1833 in Hamburg and died on April 3, 1897 in Vienna. He was born in the family of Jakob Brahms, who was contrabassist in the city theater. His father introduced him many string and brass instruments, however Johannes chose a piano and he became piano virtuoso later. At the age of 14 he gave his first solo piano concert and his music career began. He toured with Hungarian violinist E. Remenyi. In 1853 he got acquainted with Robert Schumann and was romantically attracted to his wife Clara who was 13 years older than he. However after the death of her husband he couldn’t decide to make a proposal. He also had serious relations with Agathe von Siebold but eventually the engagement was broken off. During his career he reached the popularity and was recognized by his contemporaries. You can download Brahms Complete Edition in mp3 from our site.
