Peter Alexander Makkay, better known as Peter Maffay is a German rock singer-songwriter, composer and guitarist born on August 30, 1949 in Braşov, Transylvania, Romania. His mother is German and father is Hungarian. The family emigrated from Romania to Germany in 1963. Makkay started his music career the same year, forming his first band The Dukes. He reached national fame in 1969 releasing his debut single “Du”. The song was a big hit in Germany. The breakthrough to the top of the charts happened in the end of the 1970s. He released series of consecutive albums number one and established a sales record in Germany. 11 of his albums reached the top spot of the German chart.
