Believer is an American thrash metal and progressive metal band that was formed in Colebrook, Pennsylvania in 1986 by drummer Joey Daub and guitarist-vocalist Kurt Bachman, and currently comprises Kurt Bachman, Joey Daub, Jeff King, Kevin Leaman and Elton Nestler. In 1989, the band was signed to R.E.X. Records and released their debut album, Extraction from Mortality (1989). This album gained notice among non-Christian metal fans, and Believer was signed to Roadrunner Records in 1990. The album's lead single, ”Shadow of Death”, became one of the all-time favorites among the band's fans. Other singles from the album were "Unite" and "Stress". Following the release their second album, Sanity Obscure, the band toured with the British death grind band Bolt Thrower and the Canadian death metal band Sacrifice.
