Serj Tankian is an Armenian-American alternative metal, experimental rock and art rock and musician. He was born on August 21, 1967, in Beirut, Lebanon. He quickly gained popularity as a member of the Grammy Award-winning alternative rock band System of a Down. He is also collaborated with the Turkish-Armenian musician Arto Tunçboyacıyan. In early 2002, he along with Tom Morello (guitarist from Rage Against the Machine) created a non-profit organization entitled Axis of Justice. He achieved his break as a solo singer in 2007 with his first album, Elect the Dead, which spawned hit singles such as "The Unthinking Majority", "Empty Walls", "Lie Lie Lie" and "Sky Is Over". This record reached Top Ten on the Top Canadian Albums, the Billboard 200 and Austrian Albums Top 75 charts.
