India.Arie (birth name India Arie Simpson) is an African-American soul, R&B, and neo soul singer-songwriter, record producer, guitarist, and flautist. She was born on October 3, 1975, in Denver, Colorado, United States. In 1999, she was noticed by a music scout from Universal/Motown. In 2002, she released her debut album, Acoustic Soul, which debuted at number ten on the U.S. Billboard 200 and also entered at number three on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. The album also was certified double platinum and spawned two hit singles such as "Video" and "Brown Skin". She continued the success of her debut with the release of the following album, Voyage to India. This album won her two Grammy Awards, "Best R&B Album" and "Best Urban/Alternative Performance" for the song "Little Things".
