American singer-songwriter and visual artist Devendra Banhart was born on May 30, 1981 in Houston, Texas, the United States. Devendra is a synonym name of Hindu God Indra. When Banhart was two his parents divorced and he was raised by his mother in Caracas, Venezuela. At the age of 14 he moved to Los Angeles with his family (mother and stepfather). Banhart’s music is very unique and composes of very many elements like of folk, alternative folk, lo-fi, avant-folk, freak folk and psych folk. Generally, his music can be associated with New Weird America genre. Banhart caught an ear of Michael Gira, owner of Young God Records. He signed him and a debut label release was 2002 album Oh Me Oh My. Banhart performs with backing band Vetiver. He performed at Carnegie Hall, at Bonnaroo and Coachella music festivals.
