New Edition is an American R&B, soul and hip hop band that was formed in 1978 and consists of Ronnie DeVoe, Bobby Brown, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ralph Tresvant and Johnny Gill. Originally this band was inspired by The Jackson 5. In 1993, they achieved their break onto the hip hop and pop scene and they also became a pop phenomenon. They were well enough known for have Madonna as an opening act during their early days. The band's huge success led to the creation of such bands as New Kids on the Block and Boyz II Men. They achieved mainstream success with their best selling album, Home Again, which debuted at number one on both The Billboard 200 and R&B Albums chart.
