American folk singer-songwriter and political activist Pete Seeger (Peter Seeger) was born on May 3, 1919 in New York, New York. He is considered a key figure in the revival of the folk music in the middle of the 20th century in the U.S. He was a member of the band The Weavers that was very popular with a string of their hit singles. One of their most popular songs was “Goodbye, Irene”. Seeger is known also for writing and co-writing of such popular songs like "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?", "If I Had a Hammer (The Hammer Song)" (composed with Lee Hays of The Weavers), and "Turn, Turn, Turn!". The songs were so popular that they were performed by various artists both in folk and in other genres. For example, Marlen Dietrich recorded “Flowers” in English, French and German.
