Immortal Technique (birth name Felipe Andres Coronel) is an American rapper and political activist. He was born on February 19, 1978, in New York City, New York, United States. He has described himself as a "socialist guerrilla". His music is inspired by historical and often political figures such as Ali, Malcolm X, Che Guevara, César Chávez, Augusto César Sandino, Marcus Garvey, Túpac Amaru II, Jose Carlos Mariategui, W. E. B. Du Bois, Karl Marx, François Toussaint, Harriet Tubman, Emiliano Zapata, and Mumia Abu-Jamal. He achieved mainstream success in 2003 with his breakthrough album, Revolutionary Vol. 2, which yielded the singles "Truth's Razors", "Freedom of Speech", "Homeland and Hip Hop" and "Harlem Streets". In spite of the fact that it was released independent of major studio support, it made record sales, fueling its revolutionary concept.
