American punk and indie duo The Evens was formed in Washington D.C. in 2001. The duo composes of Ian MacKaye on guitars and vocals (Fugazi, formerly of Minot Threat) and of Amy Farina on drums and vocals (formerly of The Warmers). MacKaye’s band Fugazi entered a hiatus and The Evens began practicing extensively. 2005 saw their debut self-titled album which was produced through MacKaye’s label Dischord Records. The band’s sound is difficult to describe, though Washington Post wrote about the sound that it is “what happens when post-hardcore becomes post-post-hardcore." Fugazi’s fans pay attention to The Evens as well because it is the first MacKaye’s project aside from Fugazi since Pailhead (1988) and the first non-Fugazi LP after Embrace of 1987.
