Opeth is a Swedish heavy metal, progressive death metal and progressive rock band that was formed in 1990 by vocalist David Isberg and bassist Mikael Åkerfeldt, and currently the band's line-up consists of Mikael Åkerfeldt (lead vocals, lead and rhythm guitars, acoustic guitars), Martin Mendez (bass), Per Wiberg (keyboards, backing vocals), Martin "Axe" Axenrot (drums, percussion) and Fredrik Åkesson (rhythm and lead guitars, backing vocals). They are well known for their music style, which is combined progressive rock music, folk, blues rock and jazz. They gained international popularity in 2003 with their breakthrough album, Damnation, which produced several hit singles such as "Closure", "Hope Leaves" and "To Rid the Disease".
