Mars volta was founded in 2001 by guitarist Omar Rodríguez-López and vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala. The band comes from El Paso, Texas, the USA. They decided to create their own group after they left another project where they were playing together - At the Drive-In. The beginning was quite hard for the new band, guys had to perform at small venues and another serious problem appeared - heavy drug use. Mars Volta creates concept-based albums and their first album was no exception. De-Loused in the Comatorium, produced with Rick Rubin is a story told by someone in a drug-induced coma, showing the evil side of his mind.
