American rock singer-songwriter Kristin Hersh, birth name Martha Kristin Hersh was born on August 7, 1966 in Atlanta, Georgia, the United States. She was interested in music since her childhood. Her father taught her to play guitar at the age of 9 and she began writing her own songs. Being a teenager she formed her band Throwing Muses with her stepsister Tanya Donelly and other school friends. She also began her solo career releasing debut solo album Hips and Makers in 1994. During her childhood and at the beginning of her career, she has been influenced by a range of artists including the Raincoats, Talking Heads, The Clash, the Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Meat Puppets and others. In addition to Throwing Muses and solo career, she has formed power rock trio 50 Foot Wave.
