John Legend is an American R&B, soul and pop singer–songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and actor. He was born on December 28, 1978, in Springfield, Ohio, United States. Prior to the release of his debut album, he achieved success through a series of successful collaborations with famous artists such as Michael Jackson, Fergie, T.I., Rick Ross, Fort Minor and others. He also lent his voice to Kanye West, on Slum Village's "Selfish", Dilated Peoples' "This Way", Jay-Z's "Encore", and sang backing vocals on Alicia Keys' 2003 song "You Don't Know My Name" and Fort Minor's "High Road". He also played piano on Lauryn Hill's "Everything Is Everything". He achieve worldwide success with his debut album, Get Lifted (2004), which produced four biggest hits, "Used to Love U", "Ordinary People", "Number One" (feat. Kanye West) and "So High".
