Grandmaster Flash, birth name Joseph Saddler is an American hip-hop musician and DJ born on January 1, 1958 in Bridgetown, Barbados, the United States. He is known to pioneer hip-hop and hip-hop DJing and mixing. He and his band Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five were the forerunners of hip-hop and as some people say they invented the term “hip-hop”. Saddler was also the first one who introduced “rap battles” or “freestyle rapping”. He has become the first rap artist who was honored to be inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame. He also received Urban Music Lifetime Achievement Award and I Am Hip Hop Icon BET Hip Hop Awards. His debut album the Message was released in 1982 and quickly earned his popularity.
