Biography

Tamia Marylin Washington, better known as Tamia is an American-Canadian R&B and soul singer-songwriter, actress and entrepreneur. She was born on May 9, 1975 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Tamia was born to a teenage African-Canadian mother and began singing in the traditional gospel choir but later she found out her interest for the pop music and decided to start a music career. She moved to Los Angeles, California where she was noticed by producer Quincy Jones who liked her voice. So she recorded her vocals for his song “You Put a Move on My Heart”. The song quickly became a hit and it was nominated for Grammy Award. The first solo album titled Tamia was released in 1998. Her next album A Nu Day yielded her biggest hit to date – Stranger in My House. Her follow up albums More and Between Friends caught less attention.
