Goapele (birth name Goapele Mohlabane) is an American soul and contemporary R&B singer-songwriter. She was born on July 11, 1977, in Oakland, California, United States. Since her childhood, she was heavily influenced by various styles of music. She states that her main influences are Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Bob Marley and Prince. She appeared on the American music scene in 2001 with her debut album, Closer, which reached number 63 on the Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. She achieved mainstream success with her following album entitled Change It All, which produced her most popular hit singles such as "Change It All", "First Love", "Love Me Right" and "4am".
