American MC and record producer DJ Quik, birth name David Martin Blake was born on January 18, 1970 in Compton, California, the United States. Quik received his first turntable upon his 9th grade graduation and quickly pursued his music career. He gave shows around Southern California and could sign a contract with profile Records in 1990. His debut album “Quik Is the Name” was released in 1991. The album quickly gained him popularity, not only in his native California, but on the national level as well. The singles "Tonite" and "Born and Raised in Compton” charted on the US R&B chart and reached top 20. The album was certified Platinum and that was a real success.
