Deus is a Belgian experimental rock, indie rock and alternative rock band that was formed in 1989 and currently consists of Tom Barman (vocals and guitar), Klaas Janzoons (keyboards and violin), Stéphane Misseghers (drums), Alan Gevaert (bass) and Mauro Pawlowski (guitar and vocals). The band displays a wide range of influences, including Captain Beefheart, Frank Zappa, Big Star, Sonic Youth, Flipper, Rapeman, Sun Ra and Mingus-style jazz, Leonard Cohen and the Velvet Underground. The band rose to fame with its first album, Worst Case Scenario (1994). Their follow-up album, In a Bar, Under the Sea, was released in 1996. It yielded several singles such as "Theme from Turnpike", "Little Arithmetics", "For the Roses" and "Fell Off the Floor, Man". It also reached Gold in Belgium.
