The Bangles are an American rock and pop rock all-female band that was formed in 1981 by Susanna Hoffs, Vicki and Debbi Peterson, and currently consists of Susanna Hoffs (vocals/guitars), Vicki Peterson (vocals/guitars/bass guitar), Debbi Peterson (vocals/drums/bass guitar), Annette Zilinskas (vocals/bass guitar) and Michael Steele (vocals/bass guitar/guitar). They achieved mainstream success in 1986 with their breakthrough album, Different Light. The album's Top 40 sound was a departure from their earlier 60s-style sound. Three of five singles were written by someone other than the Bangles: "Manic Monday", "If She Knew What She Wants" and "Walk Like An Egyptian".
