Ray Charles (September 23, 1930 – June 10, 2004) was an American rhythm and blues singer, pianist and composer. He was born in Albany, Georgia, USA. Charles was credited with the early development of soul music, a style based on a melding of gospel, rhythm and blues, and jazz music. He achieved worldwide success with a collection of hits such as "It Should Have Been Me", "This Little Girl of Mine", "Lonely Avenue", "Drown in My Own Tears", "The Night Time (Is the Right Time)", "Georgia On My Mind", "Hit the Road Jack" and "Unchain My Heart".
