Biography

African-American singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer George Clinton was born on July 22, 1941 in Kannapolis, North Carolina, the United States. He began his music career as a songwriter for Motown but later organized his band Parliament that became one of the most popular early funk bands. Clinton is considered one of the forerunners and pioneers of funk. Later Parliament was transformed into Funkadelic band, which composed of the same line-up but was different stylistically. During the 1970s, this band was dominating in the black music having released 3 platinum albums and about 40 R&B singles including three singles number one. In 1981, Clinton embarked on a solo career. The next year he signed to Capitol Records as a solo artist and as P-Funk All Stars.
