American pop rock band Fountains of Wayne was formed in 1996 in New York City by two songwriters Adam Schlesinger and Chris Collingwood who had met each other in Williams College. They began their music career together, playing in various bands. After they formed a band, two other musicians joined them – Brian Young on drums and Jody Porter on guitar and backing vocals. Adam Schlesinger plays bass and Chris Collingwood is lead vocalist and guitarist. The band released a demo, which earned them a contract with Atlantic Records. The debut self-titled album was released in 1996 and the band embarked on a tour where they shared the stage with many acts including The Smashing Pumpkins and The Lemonheads. The band released three more studio albums. The last their release came out in 2007, that was an LP traffic and Weather.
