Great French composer, musician and intellectual Charles-Camille Saint-Saёns was born on October 9, 1835 in Paris, France and died on December 16, 1921 in Algiers, Algeria. His father died when he was only three months and he was brought up by his mother and aunt. He started to learn playing piano when he was three and he performed the first big concert at the age of 10. Since his childhood he was interested in many sciences like philosophy, mathematics, astronomy and archeology. He was also interested in religion and ancient languages. He quickly became a prominent composer and virtuoso pianist. He was married to Marie-Laure Truffot. They had two sons but they died in infancy. Saint-Saens is remembered for Carnival of the Animals, Samson et Dalila, Danse Macabre and others.
