Gary Glitter (birth name Paul Francis Gadd) is an English glam rock and pop singer and songwriter. He was born on 8 May 1944, in Banbury, Oxfordshire, England. He came to prominence in the early 1970s with his breakthrough album, Glitter, which was highly praised by critics and yielded his first smash hits such as "Rock 'N' Roll (Part One)", "Baby, Please Don't Go", "The Wanderer" and "School Day (Ring Ring Goes the Bell)". The album's lead single, "Rock 'N' Roll", reached number two on the British charts and number seven on the Billboard Hot 100.
