Katie Melua, birth name Ketevan Melua is a British blues, jazz and folk pop singer, songwriter and musician. She was born on September 14, 1984 in Kutaisi, Georgian SSR, Soviet Union. She and her family moved from Georgia soon after the collapse of the USSR. At first, they settled in Belfast, Northern Ireland and later in England, London. Now she is a British citizen. Melua began writing songs at school and decided to begin a professional music career. She plays guitar, paino and violin. She released her debut album Call of the Search in 2003 and broke to the mainstream success at once. The album would become her best-selling release. It was supported by such singles as "The Closest Thing to Crazy", "Call off the Search" and "Crawling up a Hill". The follow-up Piece by Piece was also a big success and spawned several singles including "Nine Million Bicycles", "I Cried for You" / "Just Like Heaven" and others.
