American hip hop artist Method Man, birth name Clifford Smith, was born on April 1, 1971 in Hempstead, New York, the United States. He is also known as a record producer, actor and founding member of the hip hop band Wu-Tang Clan where he is the most notable member. His moniker comes from the actor filmed in the 1979 movie The Fearless Young Boxer. Method is also a slang word for marijuana which is used at Staten Island where he lives. Before his hip hop career Method Man sold drugs on the streets and worked at low-income jobs. He founded the Wu-Tang Clan and became one of the first ones who had a solo on the debut Wu-Tang Clan album and the first one who released a solo album.
