Swedish death metal band Hypocrisy was formed in Ludvika, Sweden in 1990. The band was founded by guitarist Peter Tägtgren upon his return from Florida, the US. At first, Peter was the only members of the band and he released the debut demo Rest in Pain. Later, he was joined by vocalist Masse Broberg and bassist Mikael Hedlund. The second band’s demo Rest in Pain 92 was noticed by Nuclear Blast Records and the band was signed. Stylistically, the band played death metal and the lyrics were anti-Christian and Satanist, but as Broberg left the band later, they departed from such themes and moved to the paranormal and extraterrestrial thematic (The Final Chapter). The band also incorporated melodic elements in their music. The last band’s albums feature brutal and bloody lyrics, especially the album Virus.
