Grammy-nominated alternative rock singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Beck (birth name Bek David Campbell) was born on July 8, 1970, in Los Angeles, California, U.S. He has been known to synthesize several musical elements together in his music, including folk, hip-hop, funk, many types of rock and blues. He has also taken music from Los Angeles as a reference point in his songs. His most commercially-successful album, Odelay, was released in 2006. It spawned three hit singles, "Where It's At", "Devils Haircut," and "The New Pollution". The lead single, "Where It's At," recieved much airplay, and its video was in heavy rotation on MTV. The album won a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album in 1997. In 2003, the album was ranked number 305 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
